Summary- A little mouse is constantly stepped on and forgotten, while a lion is the king of the jungle and is never disrespected. So the mouse decides he needs to learn to roar so people would respect him and he could have friends. So the next morning he climbs up to the lions rock while the lion is sleeping, gets right under his nose, and wakes the lion up. The lion is scared by the little mouse and pleads with the mouse not to hurt him. The lion and mouse become friends and are always together on the rock. Mouse discovers that everyone has a little mouse, and a little lion inside of them.
Critique- I think this is an excellent story to work on character building and confronting your fears because in the end, the mouse gets a new friend because he faces his fears. It is a very uplifting story with very cute illustration's.
Prompts- Do you think the other animals left him out on purpose? Do you think mice can roar? Do you think he wants to actually roar like a lion, or just be a little braver? What does it mean that the lion might make him a feast?
Craft elements for a lesson plan- I used this book to teach courage and friendship because it lets the students know that if you go through something you are scared to do, you win because you faced your fears and something good may come of it.

Read information about the author

Ebook The Lion Inside read Online! Rachel is a writer of words, drawer of pictures and champion of silver linings. She exhibits widely, writes tirelessly and frequently creates slightly unhinged characters.

Her written work includes children’s stories and poems, clever advertising copy and lots of other stuff besides. Her illustrative work is a smorgasboard of giant, hand-printed poems, mind-bogglingly detailed gouache illustrations and a cacophony of quirky prints and etchings.

She explores the lovliness of words and the magic of pictures, revelling in a world of jam-eating miniature bears and other made-up animals.

Her work aims to capture a free way of thinking - one which makes you feel anything is possible, a feeling all too easily lost with the end of childhood. When we’re all grown-up, sometimes we just need a little nudge to remember it’s been there all along.

*Rachel has also been an air hostess, a garden designer and a lifeguard. She often runs a really long way and was once invited to the selection of the British ultra running team. She also once won a date with Man of the millennium and has been trying to live it down ever since.
